Frequently asked questions
What does the mirror text tool actually change?
Each character is replaced by its left-right mirrored lookalike where one exists: b swaps with d, p swaps with q, brackets and slashes swap orientation. Characters without a natural mirror (like e or t) are left alone, so order never changes.
Why doesn’t every letter get mirrored?
Because most Latin letters have no dedicated mirrored code point in Unicode. Inventing one is impossible — the tool only swaps characters that genuinely look mirrored, which keeps the output honest rather than garbled.
Where do people use mirrored text?
Mostly for playful effects: usernames, chat messages about “ambulance writing”, testing font rendering, or pairing with a real mirror for gags. It has no effect on search or accessibility.
Can I mirror the whole word order instead of characters?
This tool mirrors characters in place (classic mirror-writing style). If you want the word order reversed, that is a different effect — use the Reverse Text tool’s words mode.
Is mirroring the same as flipping upside down?
No. Mirroring reflects across a vertical axis (left/right), while the Upside-Down tool reflects across a horizontal axis and reverses the string. Combining both roughly rotates text 180 degrees.
