Frequently asked questions
What do "add tax" and "remove tax" mean?
Adding tax starts from a net price and works out the final gross price including VAT/GST. Removing tax does the reverse — you give the gross price you paid and the tool extracts how much of it was tax and what the net price was. This is what "reverse calculation" means on an invoice.
Why is the tax amount not just gross × rate?
Because the rate applies to the net price, not the gross. Taking 20% of a $120 gross would give $24, but that price only contains $20 of tax ($100 net × 20%). The tool divides the gross by (1 + rate/100), the exact inverse of the way tax was added.
Which rate should I choose?
The presets cover common VAT/GST rates (5% GCC, 7.5% Nigeria, 10% Australia, 12% Philippines, 15% NZ/Singapore/South Africa, 20% UK). Pick Custom for any other rate — the math is identical.
Are the results rounded?
The underlying math is exact floating-point; only the display is rounded to two decimals with thousands separators, matching how invoices show money. For filing, follow your tax authority's own rounding rules.
Does anything leave my browser?
No. The figures are computed locally as you type — nothing is uploaded or stored.
