What does formatting actually do?
It parses your JSON and re-serializes it with consistent indentation — every object and array gets its own line, so nested structures become easy to read and diff.
How does the error location work?
When the JSON is invalid, the parser reports the exact character position of the failure. The tool converts it to a line and column number so you can jump straight to the problem — often a stray comma or a missing brace.
Which indent sizes are available?
Two spaces, four spaces or a tab, plus a Minify button that strips all optional whitespace to produce the most compact valid JSON.
Does formatting change my data?
No. Whitespace between tokens is the only thing that changes — keys, values, ordering and number precision stay exactly as parsed by the standard JSON data model.
Is my JSON uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and formatting happen locally in your browser; the content never leaves your device.
