How is the difference between two dates counted?
In calendar terms: full years first, then whole months, then leftover days. March 15, 2023 → June 20, 2024 is 1 year, 3 months and 5 days — not a decimal estimate. Total days are also shown for reference.
What happens with month-end dates?
Short months borrow from the month before the later date. January 31 → March 1, 2024 counts as 1 month and 1 day, because February had 29 days that year. The same range in a non-leap year borrows 28.
Does the order of the dates matter?
No. The tool always measures from the earlier date to the later one, so swapping the two fields gives the same positive difference instead of a negative one.
Why do results differ by a day from some other calculators?
Some tools count whole 24-hour blocks from midnight, which shifts results across daylight-saving changes or when times are involved. This tool compares calendar dates directly, which is what "years, months, days" questions usually mean.
