Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The file is decoded and re-encoded entirely inside your browser tab with the canvas API. Files never leave your browser — the tool even works offline once the page has loaded.
Which formats can I convert between?
Any image your browser can open (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP, SVG) can be converted to PNG, JPEG or WebP. The browser canvas does the encoding, so output support depends on your browser — all modern Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari builds cover these three.
Why does the JPEG output have a white background?
JPEG has no transparency channel. If the source image has see-through areas (like a PNG logo), they are flattened onto white so the result does not turn black. Choose PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency.
What does the quality slider actually change?
It controls the lossy encoder. Lower quality means smaller files with more compression artifacts, higher quality means larger files that look closer to the original. PNG ignores the slider because it is a lossless format.
Which format should I pick for the web?
WebP usually gives the smallest files at the same visual quality, JPEG is the safest universal choice for photos, and PNG is best for screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency.
