Frequently asked questions
Which barcode formats are supported?
CODE128 for arbitrary text (the logistics standard, any ASCII) and EAN-13 for retail product codes (exactly 12 digits — the check digit is computed — or 13 with a valid one).
Why does my EAN-13 input get rejected?
EAN-13 is strict: 12 digits lets the library compute the mandatory check digit; 13 digits must already carry a valid one. Any letter, space or wrong checksum fails validation — that strictness is what makes retail scanners trust the code.
CODE128 vs EAN-13 — which should I use?
Internal labels, asset tags and shipment codes: CODE128 (compact, any content). Selling through retail with a GTIN assigned by GS1: EAN-13. They are not interchangeable — retail scanners expect EAN at point-of-sale.
Is a barcode with more information always wider?
For CODE128, yes — width grows with character count. EAN-13 is fixed-width by design: 13 digits, always the same 95-module geometry, which is what lets any scanner read it at a standard distance.
Can I print the generated barcode?
Yes — it is a real SVG, so it stays sharp at any print size. Keep the white margins around the bars (quiet zone) and avoid scaling below about 2 cm wide for handheld scanners.
