Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No — that is the whole point of this tool. The file is read with the browser FileReader API and encoded in memory on your device. Nothing leaves the browser, so it is safe for screenshots with private content.
Which formats work?
Anything your browser can display: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG, ICO and more. The output is a standard data:image/...;base64 URL that works in HTML, CSS and JSON payloads.
How much bigger does the file get as Base64?
About 33% — every 3 bytes become 4 Base64 characters. The size line under the preview shows the exact ratio for your file, so you know what you are paying for inlining.
When is inlining worth it?
Small icons, logos and background images where one extra HTTP request costs more than the size increase. For photos or anything over roughly 100 KB, serving a separate file is usually the better deal.
What is the difference between the three outputs?
The data URL is the raw string for anything; the HTML snippet is a ready-to-paste <img> tag; the CSS snippet wraps it in url() for stylesheets.
